You may do as many as cinquains and haiku's as you wish ...so long as the total does not go over 6. Every 3 items counts as 2% of extra credit on a test grade. If you choose this option you cannot do the magazine extra credit too. The poems are due anytime before the last day of class in a grading period. If you are wise, you will do the poems before the middle of the six weeks in case you are not in school at the end of the six weeks.

Cinquain

Your cinquain MUST include a reference to a physics concept or it can be used as a mnemonic aide to help memorize a physics formula or concept.

The cinquain is a simple, five line verse form. Its structure follows specific rules:

Structure:
line 1 - one word of two syllables or two words of one syllable. (The title or subject)
line 2 - four syllables (describing the subject or title: adjectives)
line 3 - seven syllables (showing action -verbs usually ending in “ing”)
line 4 - eight syllables (a feeling or observation about the subject)
line 5 - two syllables (describing or renaming the subject: synonym)

Maximum of 3 cinquains for credit per group. 3 points for a cinquain that follows the form exactly. 2 points for a cinquain that does not follow the syllables rule. No points for a cinquain that does not follow any of the other the word type rules.

EXAMPLE:

Pooh bear
Quiet, gentle
Resting, swaying, cloud-touching
Reach quietly for the honey
Mischief



Haiku

Structure:
line 1 - five syllables
line 2 - seven syllables
line 3 - five syllables

Maximum of 3 haiku's for credit per group. 3 points for a haiku that follows the form exactly.

Going fast is fun.
Acceleration, more fun.
Coasters are sooooo cool.
