Practice 2.1
The difference between walking and running is the number of feet in contact with the ground. When walking, at least one foot must be in contact with the ground at all times. When running, at some point in the in the stride both feet are in the air. If a person is walking at 7 miles/hour, then how many "walking paces"/second is this. (An average walking pace has a length of 31 inches.) Work out the problem and then check your answer below.

3.97 paces/second

Practice 2.2

In the 1800's, a cover wagon, called a "chuck wagon," was used to travel across the United States. If the weather was nice and the trail was good, a covered wagon pulled by horses could cover 24 km/dak. How many furlongs/fortnight is this?

1670 furlongs/fortnight

Quiz You have seen some examples of how problems are solved. This quiz will help you to how to start when solving problems.

This is a basic dimensional analysis. In class we will discuss conversion of fractional units and units raised to a power. Click here for the class notes to see more examples.
