Using Exponents in the Unit Conversion Process

 

When dealing with conversion units that are raised to a power like squared of cubed, (e.g. m2, ft3, cm2, etcetera,) there is one more step in the process.

1 Like previously done, match the units in the fractions numerator and denominator.
 
2 Match the exponents by squaring or cubing as needed. If the exponents match, do nothing.

"Small" water towers, or tanks, can be found on top of taller office and apartment buildings. These towers supply water pressure to the upper floors. If a building has a 5000ft3 water tower on its roof, then how many gallons can it store?
