This text is meant to accompany class discussions. It is not everything there is to know about the basics of torque and the two conditions of equilibrium. It is meant as a prep for class. More detailed notes and examples are given in the class notes, presentations, and demonstrations (click here.)

3rd law of thermodynamics
When a gas or liquid is cooled to 0 K, the entropy goes to zero. This is the starting point that measurement of entropy is compared to. This also implies that the internal energy goes to zero because the internal energy is proportional to the Temperature in Kelvin. If the internal energy goes to zero then the kinetic energy of the molecules also goes to zero because the internal energy is the measure of the kinetic energy of the molecules in a gas. This forms a "PERFECT" crystal with no imperfections.
